Due to increased fear generated by terrorist attacks, the police may stop and interview you when you are out taking photographs. It is important to know your rights if that happens to you. It would appear that there is some confusion over what is and what is not allowed to be photographed, but if you are aware of your basic rights you may save yourself from losing the pictures you have taken.
The petition below is a demand for clarification of the issues involved.

Friday the 21st of March will be devoted to studio lighting technique - so don't forget to bring your camera. Good lighting can make an average image into an excellent image, so come along for a master class next Friday.

The club needs image of Paisley for Paisley Podcast, so if you have any please give a copy to Ricky on Friday night - preferably on disk or send them to him via email. I’m sure we can scan any printed images that are handed in. This is important exposure for the club (no pun intended) so please take some time to find any images you have lying around. If you don’t have any pictures of Paisley then pop into the town and take a few photos – you’ll enjoy it, honest.

Wishing you all a great 2008
Happy New Year to all the members of Paisley Photographic Society, I hope that it's a great year for everybody and I expect everyone in 2008 to have their shutter fingers as well-oiled as the rest of their body-parts have been over the festive season.
Don't forget that Friday 11th January is the hand in date for the Second Bi-Monthly Competition with a maximum of three prints per category. The 11th of January is also Auction Night - so now is the time to recycle your unwanted, er... so fabulous that you want to share them with the whole world, Christmas presents - you probably won't get much for pairs of socks, but it's always worth a try.
Cheers, Mike.

If you go to their website and can’t read it, click on the little Union Jack on the top right-hand corner of the home page.
Ricky has advised me that the fees are pretty steep:
Individuals entering 1 section - fee is 45 euros, 2 section - fee is 50 euros, section 3 - fee is 55 euros.
Clubs with 5 members entering would get 10% discount off the above fees.
Payment by cheque will incur a 15 euro extra charge on top of the above fees.
Airmail fee is 5 euros each way if slides are to be returned.

The 21st of December is the last Friday night this year and it’s Grand Christmas Raffle Night with a first prize of a 4Gb Warfedale 1.5in colour display mp3 player followed by bottles of wine, spirits, chocolates, gift sets etc.
Come and see what you have won and afterwards there’s Christmas dumpling - made by Helen, real mince pies, shortbread with mulled wine, ginger wine and beer or lager - not forgetting Adams Ale.
It’s the end of our 150th year celebrations, so lets celebrate!

Fantastic news - Paisley Photographic Society has been awarded £5000 by the Lottery Fund. The money will be used to radically enhance our Digital Suite and Studio facilities. New laptops will contribute to our already excellent tutoring services and enhance our options for top quality Digital Projection lectures and displays.

St Andrews night was a roaring success with the SPF Print Portfolio for starters and drinks and nibbles to finish. There was also a 'Name The Castle' competition with the winner recieving a large bottle of Malt.
Malt vinegar as it turned out. I'm pretty much convinced that Sandy was a Philidelphia lawyer in a previous life. Helen made a clootie dumpling which was duly addressed by Ian and then unceremoniously stabbed - a typical Friday night in Paisley by all accounts.
| "Yer tea's oot..." | "Who's next?" |

So once again a big 'thank you' to Sandy, Helen and everyone else who helped to make Friday a fun night.

Margaret Donald, for many years a dedicated member of the Society who served willingly as the Social Convenor, passed away at the end of September. A memorial service is planned at Castlehead Parish Church on Sunday 25 November 2007 at approximately 12.15pm. PPS would like as many members as possible to turn out to honour the memory of a much valued and sadly missed member of the Society.

All prints for the competition have to be submitted by Saturday 10th November 2007. The drop-off points are listed on the timetable sheet. Please phone the person to whom you wish to deliver your entry and arrange a suitable time for this. All postal entries must be sent to Mark Dunnigan at the above address in Bathgate. As usual, each club receives one entry form which should be copied as often as required. The form can also be downloaded from the SPF website. Each author’s name and a contact address should be included so that award winners not present at the event can be informed by post.
Club secretaries are asked to collect and forward all their members’ prints together. The fee for this year is 60p per print. Club secretaries are asked to collect all monies from their members and forward it as one cheque made payable to the Scottish Photographic Federation. There should be a representative from your club attending the event who has been delegated to take responsibility for your club’s entries and to collect them at the end of the day. If no-one from your club can be present, please ensure that you have included sufficient postage and suitable packaging to allow the return of your entry. Entries without postage and packaging will not be returned by post, and the collection of these is the responsibility of the author’s club.
For the 2007 competition, the total number of entries is restricted to 1200 prints. Please read the rules carefully for details. There is no Beginner Section in the 2007 competition.
The cost of admission to the event is £6. Tea and coffee will be available on the day. Lunch will not be available at the venue – please advise club members wishing to attend to make their own lunch arrangements. We look forward to seeing you at this year’s print championship. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
Yours sincerely,
Mark & Nadin

The Great Intermediate Debate is now closed with a firm vote in favour of an Intermediate Section being reinstated.
A vote was taken from the committee members and the votes received from absent committee members were added to these. This showed that 9 votes were in favour of reintroducing the Intermediate category in the bi-monthly and annual print competitions, with no votes opposing this proposal.
Other breaking news - I have just returned from a holiday on the outskirts of Cupar where I took just under 1500 photographs. I organised a showing for my family, but they seem to have moved house and they have neglected to leave a forwarding address. Never mind, I looked through them myself and I think I've found a 'keeper'.

Ian tries to slip the cake into his pocket |
Helen - straight from Ascot |
Friday 7th of September 2007 was the first meeting of our new season and the lead up to our 151st year – a milestone in any organisation.
To celebrate our 150th year a surprise evening was organised by Helen Lawn and Sandy Robson. Cheese and wine with a cake to be proud of, made by one of the craftsman bakers of Aulds. This was truly something to be seen (unfortunately we scoffed the lot) the evening began with the annual showing of the Dingwall Slide Show, showing some very interesting images.
Thanks to all who organised and supported the evening.
Ian Milliken - Vice President
